Barritt, Michael J.A. (fl.1980s-2000s)He commenced as a trainee at the Parks and
Wildlife Library of the Parks and Wildlife of the Northern Territory in 1987.
He moved into a role at the
Alice Springs Herbarium where he engaged in a variety
of tasks, including botanical surveys across the Territory
and the editing of the Checklist of the Flora of the NT.
He then worked as a ranger at Edith Falls (Nitmiluk
National Park), Darwin region Park and Reserves, Nitmiluk
National Park and West MacDonnell National Park.
His
work in the development of the Junior Ranger programs
in Alice Springs and Darwin helped educate the younger
generation in the importance of environmental protection.
He launched and managed the highly successful Parks
and Wildlife Facebook page in 2010.
In 2015, Michael took on the role of managing
community engagement at the Museum and Art
Gallery of the Northern Territory. This role included
the development of social media and the oversight of
customer service employees.
He then became the education and
information officer for NT Consumer Affairs, managing
all facets of outreach, education and social media.
He is a very experienced wildlife and social documentary photographer with a wide range of photographs able to be accessed on the Flickr web repository.
He has contributed photos to many government and other publications like 'Common plants of Central Australia' by Diane Napier.
His herbarium collections, from 1987 to 2000, are widely distributed with most being in National Herbarium of Victoria.
